How to Create Realistic Fake Apple Cider Mugs for Fall Displays...With a Slice of Fake Apple Pie on the Side

Nothing says fall quite like a warm mug of apple cider - even if it's fake! In this tutorial, I'll teach you how to make realistic looking apple cider mugs that are perfect for cozy autumn scenes, prop photography, or seasonal home decor. From the golden color of the cider to the cinnamon garnish on top, these faux drinks will look fresh from the orchard.

Supplies You'll Need:

💠Clear mug

💠Resin (2-part Epoxy - equal parts A and B)

💠Alcohol ink in amber, ginger, caramel or golden

💠Cinnamon Sticks (real ones are best)

💠Optional: Lightweight Spackle for a dollop of whipped cream, dehydrated apple slices and powdered cinnamon

💠Mixing cup and stir stick (food scale is recommended)

🍏🍎Step-By-Step Tutorial

  1. Mix you Cider Base

After Cleaning the inside of your mug with alcohol, Combine resin part A and part B and mix according to manufacturers directions. Be sure to measure the liquid volume of your mug before hand using water and a measuring cup. This way, you will know exactly how much resin to mix up!

  2. Add alcohol ink a little at a time until you achieve a suitable color - I used 12 ounces of resin and 9 drops of Ginger ink, 8 drops of white ink and 8 drops of dandelion yellow ink to get the color I liked.

  3. Pour and Set

Slowly pour the mixture into your mug. Let it settle and begin to cure about 30 minutes before adding the cinnamon stick and the apple slices, if using. Let cure completely, about 24 hours.

  4. If you're adding the whipped cream dollop, after curing, add a bit of craft glue to to the top of the hardened resin in the mug. Using a piping bag and appropriate tip, pipe a small dollop of fake whipped cream to the glue area and sprinkle with cinnamon.

🍂 Styling Ideas

  • Place your cider mug(s) next to fake pies, pie slices or donuts for a fall display.

  • Use them in a cafe or kitchen set for cozy food photography

Group several mugs together with autumn leaves and pumpkins for a warm rustic centerpiece.
