Creating fake food wall art combines prop making with interior design, resulting in fun, eye catching decor that never spoils. The process starts with choosing a realistic food subject - like donuts, cupcakes, pizza slices or ice cream cones...even pie slices! Sculpting the pieces using lightweight, durable materials like air dry clay, foam or silicone results in a realistic looking piece that is easily transformed into a decor piece suitable for wall hanging. Additions of paint, textures, glazes and sealants bring about the best and most realistic designs.

Once the food replica piece is complete, mounting it on a surface like canvas, wooden plaques or cutting boards or even inside of a shadow box will transform the fake food into a real work of art!

In the photos here, I have used pre-done boards that had a food theme. I designed my fake food items to match the saying and design on the pre-done board. For my lemon pie slice, the crust is constructed with an air dry clay, then painted and sealed. The fake lemon filling is just a mixture of clear silicone and a bit or alcohol ink in a yellow color. The meringue topping, wall spackle with a little shading done with paint after it was completely dry.
